Authentic Fado at Astonishing Venues

Real Fado celebrates the traditional Portuguese music genre, listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. The name also honors its home, trendy “Príncipe Real” - the 5th coolest neighborhood in the world according to TimeOut - which combines splendid views, romantic gardens, aristocratic mansions and charming urban fabric with a buzzing shopping and restaurant scene.
Real Fado invites us to explore authentic Portuguese tunes and lyrics during a one-hour concert at three eclectic locations full of character.

An intimate concert in Lisbon's most iconic bar
It is challenging to define Pavilhão Chinês (Chinese Pavilion), which is as much a bar as a museum with its thousands of pieces of art, military artifacts and unique vintage items. The singular living room atmosphere invites conversations among friends and transports us to a welcoming universe where Fado radiates in its most pure form. Limited seating for an intimate concert and an hour of shared emotions.

Surprising musical blends in this historic cistern
Hidden underground in the Principe Real Square, we can find this cistern with its 31 pillars supporting vaults that received water from afar to supply downtown Lisbon. In this magical place of crossings, arrivals and departures, we celebrate the influences, that over time, Fado artists have absorbed from musical genres around the world (Choro, Mornas, Cante Alentejano, Opera…).

Heritage and contemporary influences in a Moorish courtyard
Ribeiro da Cunha Palace, built in 1877 in Neo Arabic style as a private residence, is the most recognizable building in the neighborhood. Having served as a university rectorate, it was later used as the location setting for the TV series “Maison Close”, portraying a French brothel in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, it is home to a concept gallery featuring contemporary Portuguese design. As with the Reservatório, here we embrace elements of various musical cultures, often honoring the history, glamour and trendy atmosphere of the venue. The informal setting, as well as the expertise of the hosts GinLovers, call for a gin & tonic welcome, instead of the usual glass of wine.
