The young saxophonist and composer Kuba Wiecek was born in Rybnick, Poland, in 1994. He started his music studies in his native country and moved to Copenhagen, Denmark, where he studied at the Rhythmic Music Conservatory.
Strongly influenced by Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollins and Ornette Coleman, Wiecek's compositions are also marked by pop and rock sounds, notably the work of Brian Eno, Tom Waits, Bon Iver, Flying Lotus or Kanye West.
In New York, he studied with Lee Konitz, Steve Lehman and David Biney and developed training in classical music studies. He is a prodigious performer and composer in solid affirmation.
Currently, Kuba Wiecek divides his time by performances in New York, Copenhagen and Warsaw.
He launched his first work as a leader in 2017, "Another Raindrop," recorded in trio with bassist Michal Baranski and drummer Lukasz Zyta. The record has been critically acclaimed.
