Misty Fest - Andrea Motis

Descrição

The amazing thing about Andrea Motis is that despite her young age - the trumpeter and singer of Barcelona only adds 23 years - she already has an album in her own name on the prestigious label Impulse! - Emotional Dance was released, with widespread acclaim in 2017 -, varied collaborations with his mentor, bassist Joan Chamorro, the first of which Joan Chamorro presents Andrea Motis when he was only 15 years old. In addition to this record, a dozen (!!!) are added in collaboration with their mentor or the collective Sant Andreu Jazz Band, an impressive brand of unusual talent that in 2007, when Andrea was only 12 years old, it began to manifest on stage very seriously.
In her training period, Motis, who is also a solid performer on the high saxophone, played trumpet - which she considers her first instrument, alongside world-class jazz musicians such as trombone player Wycliffe Gordon, saxophonists Jesse Davis and Dick Oatts or clarinetist Bobby Gordon. "To play trumpet," he explains, revealing a much wider wisdom than his age would allow, "is like meditating. It's an important part of my life. But I do not just want to choose one side, because I like everything, "he confesses, referring to the fact that alongside Chamorro he also discovered his voice as an instrument.
In what is already his second record for Impulse !, Emotional Dance, his voice occupies a space of choice. Compared to both Billlie Holiday and Norah Jones, Andrea Motis reveals a loud voice with succinct but imaginative phrasing, well expressed in the opening theme, the "He's Funny That Way" standard. Concerning this album, John Fordham wrote in the Guardian that Motis has looked like a big star since adolescence and describes the end result as "a session that holds us back." It will also be on stage, in a concert where the young Andrea Motis can show that the talent and ability to enchant does not need the weight of the years to manifest.
